Christina, Your Hands Are Tied by Aaron BlairYou know that your hands are tied.
You don't want to be the wedge
in the gears, the thing that stops
the machinery of someone else's life.
Still, you remember the loneliness
of December, how your bed was
empty and broken, and its comfort
was nothing but a bitter, arctic cold.
You follow every
rule of engagement
to the letter.
You say his name
three times in the dark.
You look both ways
before crossing a friend.
You want it
to be nothing so
you convince yourself
there's nothing to want.
You become
good at self-sacrifice.
You keep your
tied hands completely
to yourself. 01/18/2004 Author's Note: I wrote this about Tina. Obviously.

Posted by Christina Gleason on 01/19/04 at 06:27 AM It's hard to be objective, but the first stanza sums it up simply enough, better than I could I do. I particurlarly like "You look both ways/before crossing a friend." and the line breaks. Thank you. |
Posted by Philippa Jane on 01/19/04 at 08:54 AM I don't know the context, but: "You look both ways/before crossing a friend./You want it/to be nothing so/you convince yourself/there's nothing to want." I love this piece.. but I never expected any less. Your library is a joy to read, in or out of context. |
