CNN Poem

by Gary Hoffmann

"CNN: The extended middle finger on the pulse of America's Hideousness"

A man laughs inanely
Yesterday, Saddam was found
I have a cold beer

They check his hair and teeth
Televised for our viewing pleasure
Large-breasted commercials

New Jersey suburbia
"Now it's safe to drive my SUV"
What was the threat, again?

Saddam is found healthy
My sister is dying of cancer
Priorities, priorities

12/14/2003

Author's Note: The full title wouldn't fit in the allotted space, and so is the first line of the poem in quotations.

mmm deep poem with societal implications 'our lives' vs. 'televised spoonfeeding'. very playful yet serious
