Sandcastles

by Jane E Pearce

There's a line drawn in the sand

that the tide cannot impinge,

stopping short of that fence

on which life's forces hinge.

See sandcastles of the years

stretch stately, tall, and fair,

secure the line drawn in the sand

will keep them ever there.

But as the castles pile high with years,

they sway to and fro.

Seeing the fence become awash,

they crumble and let go.

On a first read I found this very sad. On a second one..I think it's great. About how we become stronger through the years, marked by life itself, and then at the end have to give in to life. Great read.
