When We Cease to Care

by Jane E Pearce

When we cease to care,

and song birds are mute,

when day slides into night,

and faith at last bears fruit,

seasons will still divide

the years into quarters.

The sun will continue to shine

on our beloved sons and daughters,

as they recall the times

when we were once there,

when we cease to care,

when we cease to care.
