half a century

by Emily Sullivan

if you live to be one hundred and three
it would give us atleast a half of a century.
a half of a century seems like a long time
until i think of how fast twenty three years have gone by

it is hard not to think of what we have missed
we could have had so much happiness and bliss
sometimes it is hard to see pictures of your past
although, i agree, to be angry would be crass

there are great things in store for us now
someday you will get to hear me say my vows
all i can see for our future is complete joy
hopefully someday i can bring you a little boy

so if you live to be one hundred and three
it would give us atleast a half of a century
a half of a century seems like a long time
please god, do not make these years breeze on by
