Never wanted to float

by Karen Michelle

Your eyes, two oceans,
the Aegean and Mediterranean
at daybreak - -
cool, crisp, clear.

A blue as transparent
as the illusion
of the cloudless sky,
it breaks against
my chest, as I press
my vertebrae into the sand.

The waves of your spectacle
hit these lines in
a cascade of colour -
blue, green, white, blue.

Two parallel universes
of unparalleled beauty.

If your hands could talk,
they might tell me
that this is the place
where I find salvation -
an intermeshing of fingers
and giddy palms.

But I am
counting down
on an exhale,
bidding farewell
to the sand in my lungs
as I sink into you.

*gape*

my only argument is the double use of "blue" but um, frankly, it's like.. well, like whoa. the whole thing is a tiger shark. feel free to gnaw at my bones.
