Results of a Low Income Childhood

by Trisha De Gracia

Hours of sun without sunscreen
holding our little black film cans
and catching brown crickets that leaped for their lives
when we ran through the backyard "wilderness"

then
when the sun got too low in the sky
trekking back through the hills of the complex
there, in Nanaimo's South-end Upper Harewood
back to the town house to sit
and warm up our hands on the radiator.

Author's Note: I loved it there with Jord. It was such an adventure, and everything was an experiment.

Really makes you feel like you're there...I was raised by two full-time students. I know all about these games.

This is one of the better things of being low-income. Good job :)
