(untitled) last nights splinters... by Olivia Weinkeinlast nights splinters aren't soon to be
forgotten. i feel them in my teeth still
and every time i inhale i sting with
memory. but the burning isn't enough of a
reminder for anyone now is it.
i am not alone without you.
and i built you from construction paper
all the while, knowing better
because glue doesn't hold things together
the way it should, only melts edges into
others the way it wants to. kind of like
me (kind of like..)
why do you whisper even when there's noone near
it never does quite work out the way you
held your breath for when everything you thought
you were and everything you are changes shape
and becomes everything you are not,
noone is left wondering where you are
when there is noone left.
you do the math as i smile to forget.
i twist myself into something complicated
knowing that you know better but last nights
splinters aren't soon to be forgotten and
every time i cough i only hope to remind you. 01/10/2004 Author's Note: writer's block.

| Posted by Leandra K Brossard on 01/11/04 at 09:41 AM I am entranced.. I haven't read your work before but I love the effect of the single lines amidst the stanzas... I can almost hear them stand out as a commentary... I quite enjoyed it, thank you... |
