everlasting redemption or the reason we start fires

by Olivia Weinkein

i find you in the oddest of places
stumbling onto someone else's doorstep,
dangling from the edges of a book i've never
read, sleeping in the corners of this bed,
smothering within the laundry.
sometimes even, i find you looking over my
shoulder when i'm down on my knees at 2am
either to pray or to become something less
that what mother would have me be.

i am so very weak with these sorts of things
but to you, it was always simple child's play.

forgive me father for i have sinned but to what
degree must i go to to prove how very sorry
i will never be able to be until you decide to
get down on your knees too
and show me.
