Riverbend In Summer

by J. P. Davies

Greedy eyes soak up the details
of this river-bend in summer.
The orange clay contrasts strikingly
with the grey of the sedimentary rock.
Layer upon layer, of shades, carved down
by this flowing water, year after year.
I sit and watch the emerald green spirit
float by me on its journey to the sea.
Cool and crisp, it caresses my toes as they
dangle from the shore swirling patterns.
Circles and figure-eights abound as my
improvisational side takes over.
Perhaps a kick or two, to send sparkling
diamonds soaring into the air.
They fall back each with an individual sploosh.
The sun is high overhead, marking the noontide,
as I sit watching the peaceful flow,
of my friend the river, pass me by.

Beautiful piece. Not too heavy, which is a good contrast, and the imagry is superb. It's gorgeous to read. Plus, you used the word 'sploosh.' *applauds* well done.

Having lived by a river all my life, I love river songs and poems, when well done as this one is. Perfect.

I love how you take the time to tell us what colour it all it. It brings on more personal perceptions of the poem, which I like.
