Cafe Eclipse

by Ashley Beaudoin

Entering upon smoke filled rooms

Starr taking money from everyone entering

Walking around the pool tables

I greet Shane with a hug

As I watch the young musicians

They play unknown songs

Kira dancing around the room just being herself

Christian presses a button where blue, green, red lights brighten the show

Many are talking

But no one can hear

Jaquie's sitting in the other room smoking her Blacks with her friends

Time moves on and some start leaving

Jesse shows up fashionably late

In another room we sit on the couches

Trying to talk about next Saturdays young musicians

The band is still playing their unknown songs to us

Kira is now playing a game of which she always wins

Shane with his bright pink hair is out in the main room

Dancing to the music, throwing his head back and forth

Like a ragdoll of some sort

Christian presses a button and what once were

Blue, green, and red are now plain lights

Music stops.

Author's Note: I wrote this a long time ago at a poetry conference I got excepted to, it was an class/activity/lesson I had to take a bunch of words describing a place of comfort for me to be who I am and this Cafe' was my home away from home....
