Observations (6 of infinity) (Vampires)

by Vikki Owens

This is my favorite time of day,
hours alone with you, in the cool stillness of night.
There is no sound, except the hum of the furnace,
the small chatter of the TV, the noises we make together...
We have every light in the house on...
we scamper from room to room, we play, we kiss, we laugh,
we live at night,
the nights are ours alone.

No phone rings at 3a.m. We have ourselves to ourselves.
We revel in the complete isolation, we watch the stars, we only need each other.
I make you dinner at 1a.m.
We make love as the early news comes on, five oclock and all is well.

Your skin is pale and mine is paler, we love the moon, our hearts are set by it..
you are my orion, I am your scorpio, we watch the constellations define our days...
I hear the crickets as I glide my hands over your skin, we tumble and bouce on our bed, the center of our universe,
we are as awake now, in the wee hours, as we will ever be.

We are not Vampires, quite, but the nights belong to us.
