Don't tell me that you love me.
Too many people have toyed
with those words and then left
me for dead, no heart-crumb trail
to follow, no backward glance.

I just want my heels against
the small of your back. No
words are better than that.

No sound but footsteps
and the shut of the door.

This poem really had me, right up until the very last line - then it lost me. "and the shut of the door" seems to let an otherwise very good piece down.

I disagree; I feel the last line gives the poem a very impactful finality.
