white flight, urban blight

gotta go where the subdivision's greener
gotta drive half an hour to work
get overpriced gas with a smile,
must be no other way to get around
can't imagine two feet on the ground
or shiny electric trains
lost faith in their neighbors
(what was on the TV told them)
didn't want to live by Lamont or Fred
or know "What's Happenin", hey, they like the
Cosbys, don't they,
let the city bury the city's dead
shit don't stink in the suburbs 01/05/2004 Author's Note: I'm very angry about what's happened in the city where I was born, Birmingham, AL. My father has always worked in Southside, and I love that area. but the city has suffered from "white flight" to Hoover. Now people say "I like Birmingham" but they're really talking about Hoover, which is not Birmingham!
