(Enemy)

by Karen Michelle

On the edge
of a planned escape,
I looked down
to ensure my
body had caught
up to my mind.

To my dismay,
I only found
that you had
tied my feet together
with string of purest white,
leaving me paralysed.

I writhed against restriction,
willing my limbs
to conquer the impossible
and eyes seeking out
a faceless enemy,
I shouted why with
desperate inquiry into
the intrepid atmosphere.

Anxious to face
an anonymous you, my
certain attacker,
I reached down into
the profoundity
of my pocket,
only to immerge clutching
a ball of string -
severed by the blades
of self-doubt and
the teeth of misadventure.

Author's Note: I don't like this at all but the idea behind it may one day turn into something else. I just felt the need to write it down before it disappeared.
