the breakdown of a sidekick #1 by Nanette Bellmanmary always said we were a team. that no matter what, we were in things together. she always took my back for things and i'm not saying that i'm ungreatful but maybe i'm just a sidekick. she often calls me that.
so when we do things together, i get knocked to the back burner. i got locked into the shadows of her stardom. after everything that just happened, people say, "poor mary". well i said what about "poor me".
i understand that she's been there for over 15 years...i just think that her 15 years should have jumped out the window.
i unlocked the door. i got grabbed from behind. i have the bruise on my back from the 16 year old kid who stuck the gun in it. i had to deactivate the alarm. i had to empty out the safe. i had to be with all this for 4 minutes and 43 seconds. do you know how long that is?
do you know where mary was? little miss mary was not on time. she was walking down the hallway of her apartment complex because even though she lives one mile away, she needed the brown bomber jacket she got for her 37th birthday from this guy that loved her, this guy who's money she loved.
so while i'm kneeling emptying out the safe with a gun to my head, convulsing, trying not to just explode with tears of fear, she's warm and calm and sane.
i guess everyone has their excuses. 12/23/2003 Posted on 01/02/2004 Copyright © 2025 Nanette Bellman
