I am a Snowflake (written when I was 10)

by Alison McKenzie

I am a snowflake
Drifting down
To a dirty, crowded town
I see the buses, bikes and cars
And old, drunk men
Coming out of bars
I think I’ll land in that big tree
Oh no,
Oh my,
Now look at me!!!
I’ve changed my mind
(I’ve missed my spot)
I’ll probably land
In that empty lot
I’ll melt away
When the sun comes ‘round
And then next year,
Without a sound,
I’ll be a snowflake
Drifting down
To another
Unknown town.

Author's Note: This is my very FIRST poem, written when I was 10. Simple, I know, but heck I was 10! LOL! I wrote it for an assignment in class, and it started everything...

Yes incredible for 10!!! The poet in us has been there from the beginning-in the schoolroom, the playground, college. and all other minutes that have taken up our life. Some can learn to write-some carry it to the delivery room. Wonderful for 10!!!

Extremely intuitive for a 10 year old! Excellent even for now! Great read. :)

This is fabulous. Especially for a 10-year-old. What on earth made you include drunk men in your poem at 10? I think this website is so very cool. I bet when you wrote this, you never dreamt that 20 years later some stranger in Dallas would be reading it, or a guy in North Carolina, . . .
