For Now...Goodbye

by J. P. Davies

You say you found a revelation, dear.
If you could only see yourself.
It works to my advantage when you
pound words that convince me you
could never love me half as much
as you love yourself.

No hearts are on the line here
we're far past that now.
You just couldn't resist
rubbing salt and squeezing
lemons into my already stinging
wounds. They hate you enough
already without the reminder.

It's not that I don't care,
it's just I can't take it
when you tear me apart.
You keep coming back at me
with more information that
would have been useful to me
before all this happened.

Now it just seems that you
are purposely tormenting me.
Feeding me the exact things
that will be of the least
help for my recovery from
my addiction to you.

Guess what it's not going to work.
I quit this charade once and for all.
You are not helping things at all.
So for now...goodbye.

"Pride can stand a thousand trials. The strong will never fall."
