Topic: Flickering Flames Burn Brightest

by J. P. Davies

You a former beacon
who guided lives and saved
lost souls.
You lit my torch,
I felt safe next to your heat.
Always miniscule,
next to your magnitude.
Can I step away?

Standing here on my dark shore
my feeble torch gutters,
and chases the breeze,
but remains alight.

I but a lonely flicker;
the start of something more.
A kindling precursor, to a beacon
perhaps to rival yours.

And on this rocky point of land
where waves crash and winds gust.
You see my point of light
from across the dark seething sea.
My flickering flame is burning brighter.
Someday I'll shine just for you.
