I wonder why

by Dana E Brossard

We sit outside and talk,
Listening to morter and rocket,
Some from us, some from them.
Helicopters lifting off to pursue
And Fighter jets screaming,
I can't help but wonder why.

Another day we sit and talk,
A caravan was ambushed,
No deaths but well planned.
Concrete being filled in doors
And bulletproof glass attached,
I can't help but wonder why.

In the tent now we talk,
Can't go out tonight,
Sirens called Ground Attack.
Disgusted I am at the Media,
Telling the world to come get us,
I can't help but wonder why.

On the job I chat and work,
Supporting civilians here,
Who chose to bring us small comforts.
A Magazine or Book,
Some Christmas cheer for us, though
I can't help but wonder why.

Bulletproof Vests,
Kevlar and Helmet,
Hand guns and rifles.
A spy taking pictures,
With plans of attack,
I can't help but wonder why.

We bring them peace,
Without terror or threat,
Yet still they try to kill us.
Our people are angry,
Evil men for sure we are,
And I can't help but wonder why.

Author's Note: I wonder why these people still try to kill us, and I just can't help but wonder why the american people are angry that we helped free millions of people from terror and death. Are we not good people? Is the cause not just?

an incredible powerful poem, one of if not, your best, in my humble opinion, and the repetition of I wonder why so effective. Again, taking us right to the sad scene. Prayers and best wishes from here in Canada, from me. And I don't know if you'll find your answers in our lifetime, but it reminds me of what we learned in history, about man's inhumanity to man, and hindsight may provide answers, but when? What I don't get is why the perpetrators of evil had to exist in the first place or turn into such monsters.

So many questions that go right to the heart... I only hope humanity can find the answers. This is disturbing to ponder, which is good. Very good. Thank you for posting this.
