A Lonely Thought

by Christopher Shin

The greatest mystery of life
is how we craved to not be
alone in this dank cruel world.
How we bend over backwards for
a smile or a glimmer of how
their eyes twinkle in the night
sky.

We are destined to die alone,
yet we strive to find another
to fill the empty void.
It is what we do at this moment
when we have someone that makes
up all the crucial points of our life.

These moments seem so eternal,
yet to many they speed on by.
And we are left with our head
spinning in a confused haze.
Broken hearted half the time,
and begging for a chance to
die a little so we can go on.

Sometimes we drown our sorrows
in bottles of wine that we stack
up in our own self diluted misery,
like a glass castle that pierces
the darkest sky we drink and think
about our misfortune.

Yet I never really understood why
you or I would make such a stupid sacrifice?
Is it simply the fact that we
are scared to be alone in this world?
Cause if it is we are born to live
alone.
