Bittersweet Surrender

by John Harder

Yesterday I stopped caring
about you and what you think
Today I've come to my senses
They can never understand
nor will I
Why should I keep trying?
It's time now to let go
To dust off my sandals
on the outskirts of your heart

I am pushing against it all
fighting nature itself
They don't know what's best
How can they?
The pressure becomes too much
One last fighting breath
and I buckle under the weight
I give up

Author's Note: It's not what it seems. It's odd how that turned out.

Sometimes in the real world we do give up "when the pressure becomes too much", so why not write an excellent poem about it? Good job, John.

I really like that "on the outskirts or your heart" It jumps out as the theme in this piece.
