airport

by Emily G Myers

birds fly gloomy flights
of weeping passengers
icicle tears
windblown hopes
take your wetwarm kisses
and turn them
cold & grey

bird's feathers
that fall
white & dead
to the cement

arms outstretched
to hug no one
empty handed
empty hearted

I should have
left you
standing there
in the airport
and saved us
the icicle tears
& wetwarm kisses

let you fly back
on the wing
of a bird
in gloomy flight

& we would not be now
bird feathers
that fall
white & dead
to the cement

Author's Note: it's amazing how Sigur Ros can give you these really vivid pictures without even giving you any understandable lyrics. I suppose it's the time of year making me write these.

My brother listens to that band. Your poem has a sense of resentment in it. I can feel the resentment of being parted from someone you care about.

evocative and beautiful.
