Arise

by Christel Crews

Take my hand,
pull me out.

I've been in this place
far too long.

I hear you calling
for me to arise

But the mud clings
forcefully heavy, weighted.

I'm not strong enough
to climb out of this muck.

I keep
reachingpullinginchingcrawlingdragging
myself through this substance
that won't subside.

I heard you calling
for me to arise.

You reached out to
lend your aid and then
youturnedandwalkedawayleavingmehere

Please, tell me
Where did you go? And what am I supposed to do?
