Scared Little Crazy Girl

by Holly H Dunne

Huddled on a bed, clutching her bear
Door wide open for everyone to stare
Her arms are bandaged from elbow to wrist
She almost crossed over but narrowly missed
24/7 a nurse guards her door
Constantly watching and she's not sure what for
Escorted everywhere, even if she just wants a smoke
The atmosphere's so stifling she feels like she could choke
Just turned 19 and she's on admission number five
Pills, doctors hospitals, what's the point in staying alive?
Click of heels on polished blue floors
Despair is leaking from all her pores
Like a prisoner she's locked away
And like a prisoner she doesn't want to stay
And although on the outside she seems to be strong
Inside her there's a little girl who just does not belong
