Bulletproof Generation

by Jersey D Gibson

No more Cold War,
nuclear protests are just for wackos.
No more Commies,
watch the mountain under us crumble.

Salute the flag?
sorry, Ole' Glory, we sold you off.
Abuse the right,
we didn't bleed for what others had paid for.

A bulletproof generation of greed and lies.
We can get out of anything with money and alibis.

We own the world, stick our noses in the air.
the world is starving, but we really don't care.

No more AIDS,
just another government lie to control.
No more war,
we must own about half the world.

No more time,
everything comes via the internet.
No more heroes,
we broke all the rules just to be different.

A bulletproof generation of hate and sin.
There's no more God, we've done Him in.

Connect via IBM, listen through CNN.
All the goodies, diapers without safty pins.

No more plagues,
the eight wonder of the world is our arrogance.
No more mysteries,
we took science and made it marketable.

No more privacy,
our rights have gone right through the door.
No more tragedies,
violence on the news everyday at five p.m.

A bulletproof generation of pain and woe.
It's our spirits and souls we've let go.

Blow off the first twenty years, live until eighty-five.
Live the horrid destruction that is our lives.

powerfully expressed and lyrical. I found myself agreeing with parts of it as well. I particularly like the parts in italics which are all cleverly done, they remind me of the chorus of a song. "A bulletproof generation of pain and woe". Nice work.

not sure how i feel about it as strictly verse; but i'd like it, i think to music. well-expressed vitriol.

I know the arrogance of which you are speaking... in that, this is very eloquent and rightfully angry. The disconnect between reality and pipe-dreams (read: power) is HUGE now. I worry that we are so busy in our day-to-day lives that we don't realize how much of this is built on false foundations....
