M.O.N.S.T.E.R.S.

by Jersey D Gibson

A night light protects me from the closet
that lurks only in my mind.
Don't dig in there too deep because there's
no telling what you'll find.
Something lurks in the shadows and it's
definately one of my kind.
Ready to unlock the caged horror whenever
I happen to be in a bind.

Neck ties become noose knots,
Every mirror a improv shiv.
Drown myself by holding my breath,
taken all I have to give.

Riots are just a point of view, and yours
is not out of control.
All the medications in the world, and you
still decide with a poll.
Show me an inkblot test, and rate my progress
with an appropriate goal.
Straightjacket my body to keep me from hurting
myself, locked in with my soul.

Ear pops become shotgun blasts,
cigarettes too slow to do the trick.
Take a big leap off a large cliff,
time to give my bucket a kick.

Failure is just another lesson to learn,
so give me another chance.
Just ignore the scars, I'll do right what
I messed up in the last dance.
Pretend that I make progress, pat your back
and dope me into my trance.
I'll repeat all your fucking lies until you
think it was all happenstance.

Pop pills like their barbituates,
I want to finish this goddamn maze.
Sit in a white room, contempate my death,
it's not just a passing phaze.
