the meaning of it all by Angela Thomasi am naked and beautiful
sober and proud, worth
more than any other -
for sale. in my hands,
my hair feels thick &
rich. i did not give
in, today, yesterday, to
you, or him, or even
her. i am vague &
some call it mysterious,
but so it goes.
the glass holds water,
cold, and the ice,
depleting, and where
it was ice, there are
only specks that grate
on my teeth.
years from now, they
will look at my funny
creations and marvel,
lie, and pretend, they
know what really &
what really happened.
the nacirema aint
got nothing on me.
look at my tools, my
inventions, my words,
my machinisms of insanity.
could i be this perfect,
with no flaws? the
nacirema, so beautiful,
and twisted.
so, really, who am i,
to say that aisle 11,
and frozen peas are the
truth, and the reality
of what i think &
what i know? i am not
at liberty.
then again,
neither are you. 12/13/2003 Posted on 12/14/2003 Copyright © 2024 Angela Thomas

Posted by Sam Roberts on 12/14/03 at 03:27 PM I agree, the first stanza flows wonderfully into the second, your style is memorable and quite beautiful in a twisted way.
the glass holds water,
cold, and the ice,
depleting, and where
it was ice, there are
only specks that grate
on my teeth
That stanza is bloody brilliant, when I read that I can feel it, and it takes a lot to make someone feel something like that.
Lovely work, keep writing!

Posted by Amanda J Cobb on 12/16/03 at 08:50 PM I absolutely love this. You have a unique style the draws the reader in, not directly, but through the aloofness felt in the writing. I got a sense of defiance from this, that you were putting yourself down on paper, but didn't give a damn whether readers took it the way you meant them to or not. Interesting. And well-done, by all means. Welcome to Pathetic. |
