only a Child

by Kimberly Bare

only a Child
in my view or yours
not presents or lights
or trees shining bright in the night

only a Child

whatever else we believe
this much we should see
in your view and mine
only a Child

i try to treat as i wish to be treated
and look beneath the mask
to remember the truth of the season
is that too much to ask?

only a Child, to carry a truth
and a Mother beside Him, to guide and to soothe

whatever else we believe
this much we should see
in your view and mine
only a Child

Author's Note: being Wiccan myself and yet respectful of all differing views i so often see the similarities...and in so many ways...this time of year is all about the Child

Being Christian, I appreciate your open-mindedness.

Being not christian I can resect your insight to the true tradition rather than the modern reality. Beside this is a wonderful poem. peace --bf

Beautiful. I particularly like the reference to the Mother as a guide. Excellent verse that shows a needed blending of faith.
