06. Love, Never Lost by Philippa JaneI wanted to compose a love song, (an
ode to your supple fingertips, your
familiar jaw), but the words choked
in my throat, numb before your own.
But passion is fleeting, my love - what's
left to explain to the night sky? They're
only stars
after all.
You still linger against the roof of
my mouth, even now - dancing
between my teeth after midnight,
a lively (yet stagnent) memory,
tantalizing fate and our epilogue.
But this love explodes - and we are
only dark
after all.
The night, she recalls our truth: how
I first loved you for the breath you
exhaled when my lungs buckled; for
the heart you shared when mine perished
within his palm, soon to be scattered,
ashes down. 12/09/2003 Author's Note: Not a love poem.. at least not of the romantic variety, anyway. More a tribute to soul mates, if there even is such a thing - the loves who enter your life at the right time, pick you up, and love you for all the right reasons, all romance aside. An ode to passion and creativity and.. smiles.
