Round Dance (Shoshone Tradition)

by Leonard M Hawkes

I too make the Round Dance,
Make the Round Dance;
As I turn the white Soil,
Soil of the Grandfathers;
This Earth we share in Springtime,
In Spring, the time of Planting,
Planting, planting Seed.

I too make the Round Dance,
Make the Round dance;
As I gather Harvest,
Harvest now the golden Corn,
And Melons, Chiles, ripe Squash,
In Summer, in summer's time of Plenty,
Gathering, gathering Corn.

I too make the Round Dance,
Make the Round Dance;
As I till the fall Earth,
Earth that fed her Children;
With grateful hearts now thanking,
Now thanking Her, our Mother,
And Father, Father Sky.
