The Day I said Goodbye to the Chops

by Madeline Pestolesi

"Well, Old Boys,"
I said,
"It's been quite the journey....
But I think it's time we parted."

They quivered their blond dismay at my words.
No longer will they grope my face at night
With their rough,
Steely touch.
And while I constantly poked fun at them,
Their absence will change the face of the boy
I grew to care about again.

"Goodbye boys,"
I said,
"I'm sure I'll see you again one day."
