topic: an ode to gabe, my personal hero (check please!)

by Rachelle Howe

eyes smeared with kohl,
he welcomes himself
into the lonely christmas scene.
pulling out want adds and personals,
he sings the song
of the ultimate one-hit-wonder.
the pages turn with ferocity,
his fingers paper cut and swollen.
he had been lost in his chair,
naked, in women's underwear
(the silk, his favorite)
for one too many winters,
each snow adding
one more layer
of apathy and disgust.

swathed and drunk,
he swears off men forever.
this last gent
left a bitter taste.
sixpence for that job
(what a waste!)

so much for becoming
the best blow in town.

Slam! Oh, that one had to hurt. Memorable images that burn into the reader's mind.
