Soldiers, Sailors, Airman and Marines

by Dana E Brossard

I live in a land without color,
Dust in the air, it's everywhere,
Until the rains come,
Then it turns to mud that never leaves.
Cargo planes of all shapes and sizes,
Fill the air with thunder,
As they come and go without stop.
At night, I share my tent with nine others,
And we are always woken in the night,
To the sounds of mortar and rocket.
The days are long and the work is hard,
We share the load with only,
The Brits and Aussies as our allies.
And a deep loneliness settles in,
Knowing that my family and
The families of my fellow troops,
Must bear the holidays without us.
But I will serve my time willingly,
Knowing that what we do is right,
Millions of people are free because of us.
Regardless of what the media speaks,
I serve for freedom and justice.
May you all sleep well knowing that we,
The Soldiers, Sailors, Airman and Marines,
Will carry the fight to defend all who are in need.

Beautiful... I dare not blink or the tears will start... My heart and prayers go out to you and all of the troops away from home... Thank you, seems so inadequate.

a memorable piece, for which, as an echo to your other hat, in the service for others, will endure in history. I hope you have a wonderful receptive homecoming when it happens, I'm sure you will.

Wonderful Tribute.....I'm a Sailor and though I haven't been overseas yet, it touches me deeply.

Great poem. May the lord be with all who serve, and the ones they leave behind....Charlie
