Why now?

by Amy Niggel

You walk back into my life,
talking words of love
and foolishness.
Telling me you see what you've done wrong
where you should have been
what you should have said.
And I tell you its too late
you had your chance
I moved on.
But you smile at me
and kiss my hand
and all I can do is curse you for your charm.
Why now?
Why come back to me
when my world is confused enough
crowded with the looming deamons of the future
it has no room for ghosts of the past.
My heart never was big enough
there isn't enough room for everyone in it.
And if you expect me to choose
I doubt you'll like the choice I make.
I don't want to lose you
but I don't feel the way you want me to.
I lost that a long time ago
the first time you told me how you felt,
when I told you I already knew.
We would have been great together,
no doubt about that,
but we won't ever be together
simply because we will never be in the same place at the same time
yet it seems we are for once....
but why now???

Author's Note: Very very very very very very very very very very very confused about things going on in life lately, and as of this moment no one has been able to assuage my fears. How ironic, one that could, doesn't want to, one that could doesn't seem to notice, and as for me I'm just not really sure anymore

The form you did this poem in emphasizes the confusion of the speaker.
