topic: you will know me (by the trail of the dead)

by Rachelle Howe

i wooed you asunder.
we walked
the valley of the forgotten,
each step leaving blood in its wake.
i had dug you out
from beneath my eyelids,
flicked you into the
sands of time and left you for dead,
as you left me, years ago.

there is new light
where the dark had
inhabited my veins,
each moment an instant
longer than the last.
there are countless days
where i have buried my head
in these trespasses,
transgressions, and silk.

i had birthed you.
you were my abomination.

there were corpses, so many,
and i buried them with their epitaph.
the gloom that held
their melancholy together
had become a fixture.
they were one with the ghosting.
they were one in their everlast.

but i had been strung along,
each beat and measure weighed
and stored in my cells.
there was much to be said for the thaw.
much to be spoken before you were gone.

you will know me
by the trail of the dead, darling daughter,

you will know me
when the sky says stop.

Sub Author's Note/Disclaimer: We uh, apologize folks, for her. We just let her out not too long ago, and she's still needing to be medicated.

I really like your opening stanza... a lot. The imagery there is astounding.

first read this when it seemed like topics were the only topic...wondered "Yeh, but how do you follow this?" Months later, knowing you can, yes, it does burn souls - but hopefully not too many rainforests
