Black Velvet

by Christopher Shin

Small slivers of silver
twinkle against a black
velvet blanket sky.
The desert wind blows
against a bone white dune
of sand.

I stand alone in my darkest
hour with so many questions
in my empty clueless head.
I search the stars for
a pattern to my being.
Only I can't seem to
understand my plight.

The wind bites into
my skin like a dying
amber in an empty room.
I shutter at the thought
of all the empty thoughts
in my head.

I shutter to see the world
a little brighter in my head.
I shutter to see you near
me and truly falling like me.
I blink and look away cause
you will never understand
me even if you claimed to
have had it worse.

Everybody has it worse,
but not everybody is like me.
As I rub the sand out of my
shirt and pants I can only
see my only hopelessness.
