King

by Bet Yeldem

Did you know me when I was king?

I was master of everything once.

I held the world in my palm and your heart in my pocket.

From my tower, I commanded rising and setting of the sun.

Yet, here am I now. Alone.

There is no castle for defending, no battle to be won.

All power was lost in your leaving.

My crown, tormenting thorns.

My kingdom, an illusion.

Your love, a memory.
