Man's loss of struggle

by Aaron Howard

Struggle for triumph is a powerful thing..
It can make hero’s out of cowards..
Cowards out of brave men..
Show what the insides are made of..
Fighting for your cause.. for your freedom..
What struggles man contemplates anymore..
The bills, what kind of car to buy, the color of his hair..
These are menial, softening stresses compared to the past..
No more killing rapists and kidnappers at dawn
No more putting down your workhorse for two broken legs…
No more watching your children die at the hands of a disease..

Those days are long gone.. replaced by a happier, gentler nation..
Replaced by the system of social sickness..
Replaced by televisions and microwaves..
Replaced by the internet and dating services…

Gone are the days fighting for love..
Gone are the memories of our dying beloveds
Gone are the days of proving that you are a man…

Now just rob your way to the top of the corporate food chain
And take Zoloft and valium, mixed with coke to make you feel sane..
Drop your lies off the midnight bridge to forget your past
And remember all those promotions you’ve stabbed in the back too fast..
