Happy

by Thomas K. Hunt

Happy holds all the colors
She holds them all for you
She throws away what she doesn’t want
She hates the color blue

I met happy
In a quaint little place
I loved everything about her
Not just her face

Everything was fine
Until this one day
I looked at happy
And she looked away

All I ever knew
Was right before my face
And when it all turned blue
I got out of that place

I hit the road running
More than once I did look back
But those miles, they just kept coming
Like the rails along a track

I got what I found
But missed what I knew
Those days when I had happy
Before it all turned blue

I was searching for another
I heard there’s fish in the sea
But it’s hard to find a lover
When blue is all you see

Late last night I had a dream
I’ve had a time or two
Happy by a silver stream
Where just the sky is blue

The sunshine fell across her face
She was smiling back at me
Surrounding me with all the colors
She was just being, happy
