Sun/Moon

by Trisha De Gracia

Oh to know
to know
if Sun will rise another morning
sans my wishing
sans my hoping
for what seems to be inevitable.

If for once in all these ages
peachfuzz Sunrays didn't kiss the dews
and cold in sleep we never woke,
we'd all look on our crystalbrittle corpses.
Drifting there, I'd think loud to myself
"I knew
I knew."

Tell me if the Sun can best the Moon.
For every night that calm Diana
creeps into the sky like some
forever haunting shifting body,
sways the tides and turns the world
surrounded by her court of stars.

Though cherished
true, desired through the January frosts
and lifeless, Earth might be without His hands,
Apollo harsh upon the senses
overplays and overstays his welcome all too soon
come swelt'ring August days.
Diana's fair face takes the favoured stage
and Sunshine's sworn against and hated
on and off 'til summer days are shaded.

Never is that Luna far away
and always is she spared the constant pullings
true the waves are but the known excess
of such a vast and knowing grace
some marvel such as this-
although...

Luna and Apollo
can do nothing more but jest
because
in truth Apollo's nothing
if without that palest contrast
and then comic'ly,
It seems Diana's void of luminescence
if the Apollo's arms of light are not in reach
to prove diversity.

When Luna longs to be some brightened star
to shine emblazened there
to hold some rapt attention
be it ever inconstant,
mortal in the face all of Time,
it seems that Sunshine wishes nothing more
than that enternal solid stony face
that Luna seems to draw about her.

Look at battle's head:
both have neither won nor lost
for winnings, earnings can't be tallied
nor be placed upon the heads
of such intensely differed bodies in the heavens.

Though never eye to eye these gods do see,
Earth he spins decidedly to East
and measures quietly the silence.

Author's Note: Luna and Diana both mean the same thing, moon, as Apollo and Sunshine are both Sun. This sorta just popped into my head while stargazing a bit. I thought it'd be cool to write about a battle that isn't a battle between them. Yes yes, nerd that I am...
