Harm

by Vikki Owens

All you ever did was love me,
so many easy ways to say, the curves of your
kiss,
the space between your rage and infatuation,
my skin bends to you...
tender filiments of flesh and tendon,
harm for harm, my broken circuits,
bloodied mouth, kissed apology,
thunder and calamity...

All you ever did was harm me..
a shoulder, a hand, the beadwork of a spine laid
on a deathbed, pearl necklace, I love you, I do...
Recited lovelines, lives caged,
I felt more trapped, a small current, a small shock,
hideous bruised heart, pain extended into...

Into all the pleasures and surrenders, I was suspended.
Jilted, the musculature and skeleton of
our love was faux,
the puntuation of your lovenotes was fist-to-cuffs....

All you ever did was love me...
