reflecting: pt. 1 (did you ever see the moon)

by Beth K Hannah

You won't be in the mirror,
On the train,
Or around the corner
Anymore.
My searching and glimpses
Have ended and the
Volume keeps going lower and lower.
I use to want to go lower and lower
Along your planes and sinew,
But you talked me out of it
Far too often.
Or maybe it was guilt talking.
The two sound so much alike.

As the nightmares and snowstorms
Swept across my brow,
I was left with smudged mascera
And a feeling you never cared,
Unless I wore your favorite shirt.
I thought a cup of coffee and a bagel
Would solve the spaces and lulls
In our conversations,
I then realized we were never in the same room together,
And that the coffee was cold.

Estimations on your front porch
And swingset in the back,
Made me wish you didn't like
To go back in time to make me relive
Every touch I gave and every smile I received.
If only I could have stopped and kept away,
But I liked your eyes and "fuck me" smile,
So I stayed, and watched you brush off the paint.

Mindless? This verse is very articualte and filled with memories and witty allusions to everyday situations that give the reader something to relate to as it conveys a realistic wisdom. :)

Aww, the greatness of mindless chatter. It's very beautiful nontheless.
