topic: life has no backspace

by Lindsay Sanders

she chuckled nervously
as she noticed the acrid,
biting words carelessly flit
across her berry-colored lips;
her eyes followed them as they
floated in the air like a bird
flying on a windless day,
landing quite innocently on
their target, whose face quickly
fell with shame as his irises
began to glisten with hurt.
she saw her hand quickly cover
her mouth, as if to stop the
words that she had already set
free; then with a glittering tear,
she came to the realization that-
life has no backspace.
