nothing at all

by Melinda Sordino

i am blank inside
like a piece
of white paper
unmarked by
the toil of life
and untested
by the fires of hell

i am blank.

i am nothing,
faceless the world sees
only the facade i use
to cover the empty stare
and the glazed eyes

i wonder inside
if i will ever be
good enough for my
own standards
which are so high
an angel would fall
trying to reach them

and i am still nothing,
if i can't be perfect,
if i can't have everything
well then,

i'd rather have nothing at all
