Smile by Amanda ConlogueThe immeasurable smile somewhere
between five-eighths and two-thirds
of a curve and the soft chuckle I want
to tickle you, make you laugh
out loud, and triumph when I do
the sound rings clear, carefree,
childlike and I can see the little boy
cow's lick and pippin cheeks within
the man with the solemn eyes
deep and clear, like some wild
animal's, knowing, watchful
my heart expands
I can feel the pressure, there
beneath my breast bone
the bittersweet pain of love
no one tells you about
the fear, the exhileration
of what comes next
but when you smile that smile
just for me, the world
simplifies down to this moment,
I am happy here with you, knowing
you are too, that I can and make
you happy, and I realize,
everything is good.
I have everything I need. 11/13/2003 Posted on 11/13/2003 Copyright © 2024 Amanda Conlogue
