Moments in Silence

by Beth K Hannah

I purchased blue butterflies this weekend,
Three for six, five for nine,
They seemed irreplaceable.
I let them free upon the wind,
They exploded into showers of color,
Making the sun dim in envy.

Such rare beautific creatures
Do I find within arms reach
So, cautiously, I approach the night
Holding up my defenses
In case of buildings not exploding,
When the gun goes off.

"All you can expect from perfection is a moment."

A moment in time,
A centipede of lies,
A clasped hand,
A pocket full of change,
A head bowed in shame,
A tear of greed running down.

And as the credits appear,
The change-over complete,
I find solace in the
Anticipation of no sequel,
And another day of buying dreams
For $6.50.

Lovely Miss Bethy. Reminds me of conversations about candles with someone who has startlingly blue eyes:)
