This Ring

by Scott Cadence

I take this ring on and off
I strive too hard to become this fake
I spin it across the counter
Amazing how much is spinning to the edge
I ask myself should I stop or let it go
Doesn’t everything eventually fall?
This is how I reason with myself

So let’s talk about the cause of this mess
Hiding behind accomplishment
Are you fond of mental armor?
I have never seen your naked soul
Obviously body heat is not enough
To melt away years of soldering
There is just enough of you to give a name
But not enough to let go

I take this ring on and off
Not because of you
Simple because there is room for question
Room for doubt
All of which I will not find in anyone else
These questions are my own
I have the choice
to spin or wear this ring

wow...what a tough spot to be at. You really projected the feeling well. Absolutely great read. Hope you find your way out of this mental maze, cobwebbed with emotional strings.

This is a very poignant look at the internal scripts we have with ourselves and the effects they have on our own behavior and those that we interact with. Exquisite self-questioning that leaves the reader and the writer with only more questions. Great read and your form is excellent.
