In a heartbeat

by Amy Niggel

In a heartbeat,
I felt
what I had dreaded to feel all my life
I knew in that moment that I would never again be the same child of fortune
I had experienced experience.
and it had tainted my blood a new shade of red
In a heartbeat
I lost
that which I had held onto so long
I knew in that moment I could never again look at this world the same
I had felt feeling.
In a heartbeat
I died
I knew in that moment that pain would never hurt, nor love move me the same
I had known knowledge,
and after knowledge nothing is ever the same again.
