Step two: repeat step one because step two involves dying.

by Jolie Jordan

He reaches down
to run his fingers through
overly-processed flaxen strands
and a smile spills from her lips
as he pulls her closertohim.

Shes thinking up ways
to unsuspectingly convince him to return
as he smugly saunters away,
without so much as a glance backwards,
in her direction,
to assure,
or reassure,
or something along the lines of
making her feel like less of a whore.

She reaches down
thrusting her hands into deep pockets
grasping onto loose change
and a couple empty gum wrappers
making an attempt
at feeling less used
and more absolute
as she turns and walks away
without so much as a glance backwards.
